Carol's new book Goat Water Is Not What You Think: the Montserrat Island Life of Two Hoosiers and the Volcano That Ended It, tells the story of the Elrods’ adventures.
Before her career at the Star, Carol taught English at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. She has been a writer nearly all her life.
The Elrods met while working on the newspaper and yearbook at Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, and Carol has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University and a master’s from Ball State University. After their marriage, the Elrods lived in Germany while Ed served in the United States Army. During the 1960s, they and their two children built a cabin in the woods of Brown County, IN and in the 1970s rehabilitated a derelict house in downtown Indianapolis. The couple now lives on Pine Island, FL.
